April vacation is here! That's good... right? Well, yes and no. All that free time - what to do! Here's a few ideas...
Idea No.1
For kids ages 6-12 why not spend some time outdoors and create a new game! Start with a story and then add a few elements such as balls, hoops, etc. Then right down the rules. Enter the game at http://www.clifkidbackyardgame.com and you could win a $10,000 Scholarship. Check out the Official Rules and then go have fun!
Idea No.2
Old Sturbridge Village has a schedule of events just for April. Explore the great outdoors, see the farm animals, learn about schooling in the 'old days'. Check out all your options including $5 Fridays in their online event calender.
Idea No.3
The Corn Crib, The Coffin, The Pulpit, Lovers' Leap and the local favorite - Fat Man's Misery. Yes, Purgatory Chasm State Reservation. It's a unique natural landmark, a great place to picnic, free, and no place else can make a kid feel like a real mountain climbing backwoods adventurer in just a quarter mile.
Oh, but what if it rains... and it will at some point.
Idea No. 4
The first player sets the camera timer to start the countdown, makes a funny face into the lens, then passes it to the person on his left. The other players do the same until the camera snaps a shot. The person whose photo is taken must share it with the group, then perform a forfeit or tell something funny about himself before play resumes. The last person to avoid having his picture taken wins. And that's how you play Digital Hot Potato!
Idea No.5
Each kid has their own paper and a colored marker. At "Go," players have 30 seconds to begin a drawing. When the time is up yell 'TAG' and everyone moves clockwise to the next paper, gives it a quarter turn, and has 30 seconds to continue the drawing. Play continues in this manner, with the paper being given a quarter turn by each new artist, until everyone has added to each drawing. Display the resulting piece of art!
Idea No.6
Knights, Swords, Adventure, Robin Hood! Higgins Armory has it all and they are one of few museums designed to entertain kids (no matter the age). Check out the great events on their online calender. Design you own family shield, try on armor, or even join in the Sherwood Forest sing-a-long all indoors in the fabulous silver museum.
But then maybe you've done all these. Why not stop by your local library. They offer passes and discounts to local venues and can help you discover something new. Or enter our Long Subaru Go Orange for Animals story contest by having the kids illustrate the story of how they adopted their pets.
