The 3 millionth vehicle, a 2017 Subaru Outback in Lapis Blue Pearl, rolled off the Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc. (SIA) production
line last Thursday. The blue Outback represents nearly 27 years of
Subaru's auto manufacturing in America since the facility’s start of
production in September 1989 with the Legacy sedan.
"This is an exciting time for SIA," Tom Easterday, SIA executive vice president said. "With our rate of growth and recent expansions, it’s easy to see that the next 3 million Subaru vehicles will come much faster. That's good news for all of us at SIA, for our local community and for Indiana."

SIA has invested $140.2 million in new machinery and
equipment in addition to the $400 million expansion that is being
finished now. The improvements will go to increase its production
capacity by nearly 100,000 units annually to meet the growing demand for
Subaru in North America.
SIA currently builds the Subaru Legacy and Outback models mainly for the U.S. and Canadian markets. The plant was the first auto assembly plant in America to achieve zero landfill status, and SIA's entire site has been designated a Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.
