Tri-Valley's Meals on Wheels Awarded $500 "Share The Love" Most Meals Grant
from Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA)
Subaru's "Share The Love" Event helps deliver nutritious meals and compassion to the elderly
Dudley, MA (March 20, 2014) - Tri-Valley's Meals on Wheels Program is proud to announce it has been awarded a $500 grant from Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) in recognition of its participation in MOWAA's "Share The Love" Most Meals Contest. As part of Subaru of America, Inc.'s "Share The Love" Event, the Meals on Wheels Program worked with Long Subaru of Webster. The dealership provided an employee to help deliver meals for Tri-Valley clients in Webster and Dudley. Long Subaru also donated holiday cards and bags of dried apricots for each of the 130 meal recipients.
Carol Muschler, Nutrition Program Director, praised Subaru of America's initiative and said, "the people at Long Subaru were very generous in their donation of time to sign cards and assemble gifts. We look forward to continuing our cooperative efforts beyond the "Share the Love" Event."
As one of the five Subaru "Share The Love" Event charitable partners, MOWAA created the Most Meals Contest to foster partnerships between local Meals On Wheels programs and Subaru dealerships. MOWAA is awarding grants to Meals On Wheels programs across the country that recruited dealership employees to volunteer, deliver meals in Subaru vehicles and engage community members in the fight to end senior hunger.
The nation's continuing economic slump has made it more difficult to raise money to provide meals to the community's homebound seniors. Tri-Valley's Meals on Wheels Program will use the monies toward the cost of delivering meals to seniors in the agency's 25-town service area of south central Massachusetts.
Subaru donated $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased during "Share The Love" to the customer's choice of one of five charities, including MOWAA. Over the past three years, proceeds from the Subaru "Share The Love" Event have provided funds to MOWAA to support its vision to end senior hunger by 2020.
Tri-Valley is a private, non-profit agency. The agency receives funding from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts through the Executive Office of elder Affairs and from the Federal government, under the Older American's Act, processed through the Central Mass Agency on Aging. Funds are also received from other public and private sources. All donations are welcome and memorials may be established. For more information about services or volunteer opportunities, please call Tri-Valley at 508-949-6640.
