A dream come true - a real life-sized Lego car! How many times did you daydream about this as a kid? Well, finally Romanian boy-genius Raul Oaida and Australian entrepreneur Steve Sammartino along with 40 patrons were able to successfully build this fantasy car.
Made with more than 500,000 Lego bricks with an estimated price tag of $60,000, Raul started the project at 17 years of age. Completely self-taught but with a certain flair for technology, the project took 20 months to complete. Crowd funding of $22,000 helped complete the project. No, it's not all completely Legos. Some parts, like gauges and tires needed to be a bit more 'real'.
The car runs on a Lego orbital engine made with 64 cylinders. Hidden inside is a container of compressed air to drive the 256 pistons. To prevent a massive 'Lego explosion' they drive slowly, but speeds of up 13 mph are possible.
Built in Romania, The Lego Hot Rod is now residing somewhere in Melbourne, Australia.
