Our customer, Jared Vigneault, recently took his 2010 Subaru Impreza to Hermit Island on Casco Bay in Phippsburg, Maine for a weekend of R&R. "Downeast Magazine" listed Hermit Island as the Best Saltwater Camping in Maine in 2008.

Jared says, "Not only was the view of Casco Bay from the campsite awesome, one of the six beaches on the island  was just 100 yards to the right." The activities on the island are varied, including paddling, hiking, fishing, guided nature hikes, swimming and biking. "We walked a bit around the island but didn't have the time to explore as much as we wanted. A second trip is definitely being planned!"

Hermit Island offers a rare opportunity to get acquainted with diverse sea life that thrives in Maine's waters. There are pocket beaches to explore, interspersed with a rugged rocky shoreline. A significant tide rises and falls each day revealing and renewing the hiding places of animals. Tide pool exploration is a rich experience for campers. Sea stars, urchin, crabs, snails and anemones can be found. A mink or seal may be seen swimming along the shoreline. This campground provides an unusual chance to explore the shoreline environment in all its diversity and beauty!
