On a back road on the "quiet side" side of Mt. Desert Island in Maine you can still discover the Seal Cove Auto Museum. This extraordinarily fine collection is the result of Richard Paine's passion and taste for cars. The Auto Museum is unpretentious, pleasant, and well arranged. With a special emphasis on examples from the "Brass Era" (1895-1917). Favorites include several Stanley Steamers produce in Newton, MA, a vehicle previously owned by Mrs. Larz Anderson of Brookline, MA and the most valuable Model T still in existence.

Each vehicle has its background and fact, as well as some owner history, printed neatly on a placard standing nearby. The museum allows visitors to take as many photographs and videos as they would like (unusually friendly for a museum) but requests that these not be posted anywhere online.

The Paine collection represents not only one man's love of automobiles, but also his love of Maine and his roots in New England, the birthplace of the American automobile industry. No matter your background you are certain to enjoy the mystery and romance of the era that these vehicles represent.
